System Design: Hive Workstation
The Hive System resulted from a convergence of events, including the planning of new facilities at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Great Recession (which left many homes abandoned and in disrepair) and a regional strategy focused on sustainability. The need for innovative studio furniture, the availability of reclaim wood and the desire to act sustainably started the process of exploration. The result is the Hive System, which enables a dynamic work environment. Contemporary work practices require team members to move from focused individual work to collaborative activities, and to quickly transition from one project or process to another. Teams shuffle, expand and contract, and the nature of workplace interaction constantly shifts. Hive products are hyper-mobile and enable the only certainty in the workplace - change. The system was informed by the dynamic studio work environment of a top art & design college. First, the system is designed to meet user needs, enabling unique work styles and different tasks. Second, they are designed to be high quality and durability ensuring a long useful product life. Finally, the products are designed to roll off of the delivery truck, into elevators, through doorways and into place…no assembly or moving equipment necessary. Hive products are American made from reclaimed, recycled and recyclable materials. Abeo Design Partners with local fabricators to custom build workstations for your project.
