This academic project focused on demonstrating the process of translating written concepts into finished ideas. The challenge was to read a sci-fi or fantasy story (that had not been made into a film or graphic novel), identify opportunities for gear, vehicles or environments to support the narrative, then develop a final design. I chose 'How We'll Live on Mars (Stephen Petranek),' which eventually led to the MOD.1 (Mars Optical Device). This is camera, monocular and spectrometer designed for Martian Explorers.
